Erika Shershun, MA, MFT

Hello, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive training in Somatic Psychotherapy, an integrative approach that brings awareness to the entirety of an individual. This includes the experience of the physical body along with one's thoughts, emotions, essence or soul. Working with a wonderfully diverse clientele, I support individuals, couples, and multi-partners in movement toward greater presence, self acceptance, self agency, connection, insight and meaning.

My Approach

Therapy is a collaborative process; we begin your session by checking in to see what is most present for you. With focused attention to both your stated goals and what is palpable within the room, I'll make suggestions and together we'll determine the day's exploration. At times the work will be creative and playful, other times we will go deep. To keep you engaged in the process and help you achieve lasting results I'll suggest homework, often in the form of a daily practice. It is only through practice that we master what we wish to become proficient in.

For a list of the issues I treat please take a look at the Individuals, Adolescents, and Couples & Muti Partners pages.

My Specialties include:

  • Assault and Sexual Assault Survivors - please see our group page to learn about my ongoing survivors group.

  • Familial Relational Wounds and Traumas

  • Working with Artists and Performers

I see clients weekly in my San Francisco's Financial District office, and offer online therapy for those residing in California.

My Background

A long time resident of San Francisco, I received an MA in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Somatic Psychotherapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Additional education includes certification in all Psycho-Physical Therapy Professional Trainings, and participation in a broad range of trainings including EMDR, Somatic Experiancing, Body-Mind Centering, Focusing, Internal Family Systems, Mindsight, Mindful Self-Compassion, and Trauma Solutions. I became fascinated with somatic therapy years ago while training in Trigger Point Therapy, experiencing first hand how trauma is stored in our cells until integrated or released. This lead to a deep passion for helping clients experience an easing up or subsiding of symptoms related to trauma and anxiety, replaced with an expansive sense of well-being, peace, and purpose. If this resonates with you I encourage you to contact me, we can discuss steps to create movement toward your unique vision of health, vitality, and the future you wish to grow.
