Children

Society does not always provide appropriate and well designed environments for children to thrive. As a result, kids have to cope with many situations that are hard for them to make sense of. In their effort to do so, BIG feelings arise that affect their behavior and their social life. In addition, children can struggle in home or at school as a response to challenging transitions such as the birth of a sibling, divorce, a move or the death of a loved one.

There are numerous other reasons why a child might benefit from therapy, a number of these are listed below. At Therapy4u we help your child process their feelings and regulate their behaviors. Our goal is to support their cognitive development and to enhance their social and emotional wellbeing.

Therapy4u clinicians provide individual counseling and ongoing psychotherapy for children exhibiting one or more of the following:

  •       irritability in the child’s mood

  •       defiance, i.e. refusing to follow the rules, “talking back”

  •       an increase in physical or verbal fighting at home or at school

  •       sadness and isolation

  •       a lack of interest in things they used to enjoy

  •       sleeping and eating problems

  •       problems focusing on their school work

  •       regression to an earlier developmental stage, i.e. bedwetting etc.

  •       an increase in fears and worries

  •       avoidance of specific places, people or things

  •        excessive clinging and difficulty separating from a parent or caretaker

  •       difficulty with transitions such as going from home to school, leaving play dates etc.

  •       repetitive behaviors that severely impact the child or family

Adolescents

Adolescence is a time of continued growth, maturation and individuation. It often includes rebellion as teens begin to develop independence and the capacity to make their own free decisions. Growing pains can be intense for both adolescent's and their parents or primary caregivers as they navigate these changes. A split at this time in the parent child relationship can be avoided or healed with learned healthy communication, acceptance, and respect on both sides (along with well chosen rules and realistic expectations on the part of the parent). There are numerous other reasons why a teen might benefit from therapy, a number of these are listed below.
